100 oz bars value vs coins

I was looking at buying 100 oz perth mint bar on ebay, i noticed the perth mint seems to sell for the highest price than the englerhards then the johnson.

would i be better off just buying 4 rolls of maple leafs olympic coins instead.:36_1_30::

Well of course they have to charge more.

They dont have all the gold they should have in there DEEP STORAGE VAULTS.

Somebody has got to pay for it.

I saw a 100 oz silver bar in my local shot and had the same question -- bar vs coins. I walked out, but still thinking about it. Any opinions as there was no "break" in price over spot ($3 per oz) but it's sure easier to store than a bunch of coins! Anyone with more feedback on pros and cons?

well, if you can get high quality coins, such s maples, for the same price per ounce as a single 100 ounce bar, then you will have the ability to sell back your silver in smaller fractions rather than all at once.

I think it's generally agreed that high quality coins (not rounds) tend to sell for the highest price per ounce, so I think these make the most sense in terms of potential profit. I like diversity, so I have everything ranging from 1 ounce coins and rounds, to 100 ounce bars. I personally don't feel that storing coins in mint tubes, versus storing a single large bar, is such a hassle as to negate the profit advantage.

Coins can be broken up for barter (try chipping off 17 ozs of silver to make a trade) its a lot easier to give someone 17 coins and keep the extra coins for a later purchase.

Coins also normally carry a larger markup, so if you're getting them for the same price / oz above spot, theres more resale potential.

Oh, another advantage of coins, you can stash them easier. Hide a couple tubes here, a couple more there. With a bar, if you get robbed, they're probably getting it all.

The only advantage of bars IMO is that they normally have cheaper premiums.

I think that having higher value coins ie Maples, SAE's, Phils are very important for SHTF. However if you feel you have a good sum of these then storing wealh is much easier with the 100'ozs. I like to keep 25 coins for every 100 oz.
